A study published in Social Psychological and Personality Science found that, out of nearly 12,000 adult participants, having a bad first name can not only ruin your self-esteem, but make you lonelier and dumber... that's pretty harsh. Not only that, but in various experiments testing name desirability on an European dating website, eDarling, the majority of (a different set of) 12,000 participants responded that they would rather remain single than enter a relationship with someone whose name they dislike.
